The Morgan Motor Company Factory Experience

The brand of Morgan Motor Company are instantly recognisable throughout the world. We went to spend a day at their modest factory based in the Malvern Hills. We spent the day having a driving experience, factory tour and afternoon tea, the perfect car fanatics day out!

We got to the Morgan Car factory at about 9:30am, we pulled up to a small but modern and well designed building, which was showcasing different Morgan models outside. We instantly went out for the driving experience, with a guide in the passenger seat who was mainly navigating. The route we took went through the spectacular Malvern Hills. The Morgan is a very luxurious car to drive with a BMW engine and gear box, but it made for a very pleasant experience, especially with such beautiful surroundings. The driving experience was just over an hour in length.

Afterwards there was a short break in which we went to the café and had a drink. The café has a really lovely feel to it with Chesterfield sofas and of course has Morgan’s to look at throughout.

We then started the factory tour which starts at the end of the café. You first watch a little intro video which talks about the Morgan and its history. Then we walked out of the café and down a path for a couple of minutes before arriving at the factory.

The factory is made up of numerous long barns and there is not one robot in sight. Everything is completely handmade and completely personalised to the clients order. It takes around 3 weeks for a car to be made from start to finish. It was fascinating how hand made and the amount of skill going into these unique cars. It is refreshing in a world full of robot made products. The tour was about 90 minuets in total, with the guide explaining in detail how each part of the car is made and answered any question that anyone had.

After the tour finished there was a little museum of different Morgan’s that had been made in the past and lots of memorabilia and historical information. The museum then led to a shop where you could buy merchandise that included clothing, art, keyrings, magnets and some food/drink products.

We then had an afternoon tea booked which was served in the café that we originally started in. Everything in the afternoon tea was made on site that morning. You could tell as well as it was very fresh, tasty and plentiful! There was a selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones with cream and jam, and a selection of little cakes. You also got unlimited drinks of any kind with the afternoon tea. They offered different tea’s, coffees, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. I would highly recommend adding the afternoon tea to your experience at Morgan as it finishes the day off nicely. The café does also serve brunch and varying lunch options.

As we were leaving we had a peep into the small showroom that they have on site where you can look at both new and used Morgan’s for sale.

I would fully recommend this experience for any car lovers. Or if like me you are with a car fanatic but not that into them yourself, then it is still a good day out as everything is interesting and interactive.
